Jose Raul Garza was born in Piedra Negras, Mexico, to Josefa Sarmiento and Severiano Garza on November 15, 1942, and departed on January 16, 2024. His family moved to San Antonio, TX, when he was only 12.
He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Consuelo V. Garza. He was a loving and dedicated father to his nine children. He loved fishing, hunting, and gardening with his family. He loved all animals, and he kept bees and raised chickens at different times in his life. He spent most of his later years watching his grandkids play sports every weekend. He cheered them on from the sidelines.
He was a skilled drywall contractor who enjoyed teaching others the trade. He kept working as a drywall contractor until the age of 79. He would take his children and other relatives to work when they were young and taught them all about drywall. He created opportunities for himself and for many others. Many of his employees are also grateful for the time he spent teaching them the trade. His entrepreneurial spirit led him into different businesses, including running a bakery before finally retiring.
He was always there for his children through their ups and downs. He would ensure they NEVER gave up, even when they were at their lowest. He instilled the values of education and pride in one's work. He wanted his children to strive for their best and have a better life than he was dealt.
Jose Raul is survived by his wife of 46 years, Consuelo V. Garza, and his children, Elvia Garza Gonzales, Maria Garza, Marisol Garza, Dallia Garza Rios, Priscilla Garza, Margaret Garza, Jeannette Garza Berrios, Alejandra Garza, and Jose R. Garza. He is also survived by all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
