Johnny was born January, 1946, on a military hospital ship in transit to Philadelphia, PA, to the late John P. Marks Sr. and Janette Miller Marks. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joan Marks, his adoring children: John Marks III, Natalie Gottlieb and Emily Marks, and his grandchildren: Aidan, Ben, Otis, Simon, Chester and Oscar. He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and his beloved feline friends. Johnny will be most remembered for his talent, sharp sense of humor, quick wit and unforgettable voice.
Johnny grew up in Corpus Christi where he began his long and respected career in radio broadcasting, both as on-air talent and in production. In 1962, at the age of 16, Johnny stood outside the front window of KRYS Radio with a "hire me" sign, asking for a job. It worked. He would later move on to KZFM as Program Director and then to KEYS Radio until 1974. Johnny and his family moved to San Antonio in 1974 when he accepted the position of Production Manager at WOAI. For many years Johnny worked on the production of the San Antonio Spurs broadcast. He was awarded numerous awards and covered countless news stories during his long and distinguished career. In 1998, Johnny combined his love of music and production to Co-Executive Produce the album, Pearls in the Snow. He was excited to work with some of his favorite artists: Kinky Friedman, Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel, and many other legendary talents. In 2021, Johnny was honored to be inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
After battling Post-Polio Syndrome for many years, Johnny's family believes he's now at peace spinning some classic rock, or maybe jazz, and sipping on a cold beer. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to https://www.snapus.org/san-antonio/.
