Joe Anthony Garza Sr., 86, died at 2:18 AM on Sunday, September 6, 2015, of a sudden heart attack. Joe was born on September 26, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas to Guadalupe and Emilio Garza, the middle child of 7 brothers. After serving in the Army, this Korean War Veteran began his career as an Engineering Draftsman. He worked Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base for 39 years. He was deeply devoted to his wife of 63 years, Ramona Gonzalez Garza, and he took an early retirement, so he could be by her side and take care of her when she became ill. Ramona preceded him in death by 7 months.
He is survived by his son, Joe A. Garza Jr; his daughter Elizabeth A. Garza Poirier; Grandchildren Daniel and Michael Garza, Amanda Wilson, Keith Poirier, Great-grandchildren Pierce Wilson and Kinley Wilson; Brothers Bobby, Jimmy and Emil. He is preceded in death by his grandson David Garza; his brothers George, Ralph, Eddie and his sister Mary. Joe was a quiet man of few words, and even though he didn't always show it, he deeply loved his family. His great-grandchildren brought him much joy and they would follow him everywhere, when they came to visit. He and his brothers were nick-named after Disney’s 7 dwarfs - and he was appropriately named - “Happy”.
