Joe David Cochran, age 81, of San Antonio, died on September 24, 2012. Born in San Angelo, Texas December 13, 1930, he attended San Angelo College and graduated from North Texas University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1956. He served three years in the U.S. Air Force receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1953. He was married to Vivian Ruth Saxon Cochran on March 12, 1955. Upon graduation from college he was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 Years and 3 months, retiring December 30, 1991. While working for Southwestern Bell he worked through levels of management retiring as Division Manager of Southwestern Bell Public Communications for the state of Texas. While at Southwestern Bell, he attended specialized management courses at Texas Christian University and Texas A&M. He also attended numerous professional personnel and management development courses within Southwestern Bell. During his career his activities included leadership roles in Texas involving community, industrial development, civic activities and Wichita County Grand Jury. Since living in San Antonio, he served on the Bexar County Grand Jury, served as a member of the Windcrest Volunteer Fire Department for 18 years, established the Windcrest Security Awareness Committee and Citizen’s Patrol in 1976, served on the Windcrest Planning and Zoning Commission, served two terms on the Windcrest City Council, served two terms as Mayor of Windcrest, received the Law Enforcement Award from the Windcrest Optimist Club and served as Maintenance Chairman and on the Board of Directors of the Mountain Lodge Homeowners Association. He was also a member and served on committees of the Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ferol and Joe Cochran, and his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Homer Haynes. Survivors include Vivian Ruth, who has been a wonderfully devoted, dependable, dedicated wife, and a companion, supporter and friend for 57 years, and four children and their spouses David Wayne and Lisa Cochran, Huntsville, Alabama, Debra Jeanne and Mike Stovall, San Antonio, Texas, Denise Elaine and Col. Franklin Myers, Kennesaw, Georgia, and Deanna Ruth and Bruce Laird, Milton, Florida. He enjoyed 11 grandchildren, Dr. Christina Leigh Cochran, Charleston, South Carolina, Channing Jovi Cochran, Nashville, Tennessee, Riley Saxon Morlen, Tempe, Arizona, Reggie Joe Morlen, San Antonio, Texas, Forrest David Stovall, Lubbock, Texas, Sierra Jeanne Stovall, San Antonio, Texas, Logan Lewis Laird, Tiffany Anna Laird and Tanner Bryce Laird, Milton, Florida, Chloe Elizabeth Cochran and Chelsea Olivia Cochran, Huntsville, Alabama, a step brother Daryl L. Holder and his wife Mary of Oxnard, California and a cousin Earl Mabus and his wife Jerri, Hampton, Virginia. Visitation will begin Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home. Services will be held at Trinity Baptist Sanctuary on Friday September 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
