Jerry Donley III

After some soul-searching, at the age of 19 Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and spent the next 10 years on assignments in five states and Asia. In late 1986 and on his third assignment to the Philippines, Jerry returned for nearly four years and served as an Ambassador in Blue assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Manila. On March 3, 1990, he was united in holy matrimony with Marilou A. Donley, and to this union of 34 years, they were blessed with one child, Jasmine Chanel Steed.

Besides the interesting tour of duty that Jerry enjoyed with the NATO operations, it also gave the Donley's the opportunity to visit most of the countries in Europe during the almost three years they lived in Italia. In 1995, in what turned out to be his last USAF assignment, Jerry returned to where it all started - Lackland AFB in the Alamo City. Jerry and Marilou decided he would retire from the Air Force (which he did in July 1997 with the rank of Master Sergeant) and officially call San Antonio home.

Jerry's loving life was full of inspiration, strength, wisdom, and a testimony that can surely spark hope to all those who are familiar. Many people gravitated to him because of his undeniable charisma, smile, and his strong belief in prayer. His request to his family was to above all, keep God first and allow God to lead you through life. He was the rock and prayer warrior in the home that kept his family together. Trey was the person to call when you wanted to talk jazz, classic hot rods, needed a word of encouragement, a laugh to make your day brighter or a quick word of advice.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted, loyal, and loving wife, Marilou A. Donley; his daughter, Jasmine C. Steed and husband, Ryan Steed of Boerne, TX; two sisters, Jerrlyn R. Johnson of Ft. Worth, TX and Mary Hal Herbert of San Angelo, TX. Danford J. Donley of San Angelo, TX preceded him in death; and a host of relatives and friends.

I've done my work I've sung my song.

I've done some good. I've done some wrong.

Now it's time for me to go home.

Don't grieve at the remains you see.

That's not me!! I'm not dead.

My spirit is just set free.
