James Edward Hardy Sr, age 90 of San Antonio Texas, passed away December 23, 2020, after a long battle with Leukemia. He was born January 5, 1930 in Jourdanton, Texas to Lorena Mae and John Brock Hardy.
James (Jim) grew up in San Antonio, and graduated from Burbank High School in 1949, where he excelled in track and field and won several medals. He loved playing the guitar, country music and dancing. After High School he joined the Coast Guard and served until his honorable discharge due to him being injured on the ship. After his service with the military he went on to play the guitar with the Texas Hillbillies Band in Bandera, TX. He worked at the historic Lone Star Brewery for several years. He then went on to work a long career in the insurance business. He loved sales and was a natural born salesman until he retired. He loved traveling around the world and enjoyed many many cruises with his wife, Sylvia. I guess it was always in his blood after leaving the Coast Guard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sylvia Jean Hardy of San Antonio; and his children, Ray A.Hardy Sr, Linda D. Hardy, James E. Hardy Jr. and wife Gretchen, Dawn Barker and husband Melvin Jr, Debbie Saldana and husband David. 10 Grandchildren, Allen Hardy Jr, Christopher Hardy, Laura Hardy, Rebeca Hardy, Veronica Hardy, Stephanie Ramos, Jeb Cash, Caitlyn Barker, Jon Hicks, Natalie Balusek; 12 great-grandchildren, his sister Betty Richards, and extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lorena Mae and John Brock Hardy; and son Robert Hicks Jr.
Funeral services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 1701 Austin Hwy location on Thursday, December 31st, 2020 at 11:00 am and burial will follow.
