Jim will now be reunited with his beloved wife, Betty Lee (Mimi), with whom he shared 60 years of marriage and created 3 wonderful children: twin daughters, Carol Dudley (Jim) and Penny Thomas; and son, John (Barbara) DeLoach. In addition, Jim is survived by 8 grandchildren: Lori Kolodziejski, Paula Coleman, Rhonda Thomas, Wendy Ochs, LeAnn Vela, Brad Dudley, and Kaleb & Kody Shaw; and 10 great grandchildren: Jake, Alex, Kelsey, Taylor, Shelby, Sydney, Cole, Kile, Kade and Kayla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mimi and great granddaughter, Ainsley.
Jim and Mimi traveled the world together until he retired from the Army in 1968. He then helped Mimi manage her beauty shop in Windcrest, TX, until they finally retired to just enjoy time together with family and friends.
Jim was born and raised in Elizabethton, TN. He served as a Navy Medic and Marine Corps X-ray Technician before joining the Army, to include wartime service in Japan and Korea. Jim’s specialized managerial skills and experience in his final military assignment enabled him to plan the activation of the 6th Medical Battalion, 6th Infantry, Fort Campbell, KY, and to advise the Division Staff regarding critical medical support matters.
Both in service to his country and as a family man, he was a “true hero” who will be celebrated and kept alive in our memories.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Sunset Funeral Home. The Graveside Service will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
