Jacob “J.M.” Henshaw, age 94, passed away June 7, 2011. He was born in Hawkins County, TN, on September 18, 1916 to William and Hattie Henshaw. He retired as a First Sergeant from the U. S. Army in 1970. A farm boy who worked construction and mining before entering the Army, J.M. served his country proudly in peacetime and war from the South Pacific to Europe. He displayed a dedication to duty on battlefields and in military surgeries, and as an instructor in medical classrooms. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and presiding over a BBQ grill that turned red meat into fine dining. With a keen eye for life’s amusements, J.M. found bright spots in life’s toughest moments. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years Floy Henshaw and second wife of 40 years Cara Henshaw, and his sisters Pauline W. Neas and Calla Lee Johnson. He is survived by his son, Jacob “Jake” M. Henshaw, Jr. and wife Patricia; their daughters, Rebecca and her husband Dan Martell, and Sarah and her husband Richard Choularton, and great grandchildren, Isabella and Ethan; his nieces Charlotte W. Burnett and Carlene W. Foushee; his daughter-in-law Norma Sturdivant, and his step-daughter Sandy Russell and grandson Jeff Russell; and family members Jerry and Marion Armstrong and family. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2011, at Sunset Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
