Ms. Irene, as she was lovingly known by family, friends, and business associates, was born in Gillett, Texas to Monica and Cleto Cruz. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Manuel A. Cosme; brothers Richard T. Cruz and George T. Cruz.
She was mother to Rose Cosme, Sylvia Sanchez (Manuel), Diana Cosme (John Aguilar), Manuel Cosme Jr., Anita Cosme (Greg Wolff), and Alma Cosme (Patrick Waggoner); grandmother to Wesley Sanchez (Laura), Ashley Sanchez, Danielle Cosme, and Erik Cosme; great-grandmother to Corey, Robert, and Pyper Sanchez.
Ms. Irene was a successful small business owner. She started repurposing, recycling, and re-selling antiques and vintage finds at a local flea market over 40 years ago. As her children grew older, she began teaching them everything she knew about the business. Ms. Irene eventually joined her children in selling her antiques and vintage finds in her booth-tiques at Homestead Handcrafts in northeast San Antonio. Today, her children still practice all they have learned from Ms. Irene.
