Maria Imelda L. Pompa, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was born in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico on November 15, 1921. She lived a full and happy life before passing away peacefully at her home on Monday, March 8, 2010 at the age of 88. Imelda grew up in Nuevo Laredo, but lived the majority of her life in San Antonio, Texas. In person, "Mimo" charmed wherever she went. A tiny, lively woman with quick wit, she could also be sharp-tongued and stern with her words. Cheerful, until the end, she continued to be keenly observant of all that went on around her. She always enjoyed spending time with her family. She was deeply loved, and will be greatly missed by all those fortunate to have known her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor C. Pompa and daughter San Juanita. She was the last surviving member of the late Mr. Ciriaco and the late Mrs. Adelaida Lira's fourteen children. Left behind to eternally treasure her memory are her sons, Pedro Victor & wife Vicky Pompa, Victor Manuel & wife Sylvia Pompa, Mario Alberto & wife Maria Elena Pompa and daughters, Imelda & husband Robert Alvarado, and Leticia & husband Jose Maria Mendoza as well as 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces & nephews. Visitation will begin Thursday at 5:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM at Roy Akers Funeral Home. Funeral procession will depart Friday at 9:30 AM for a 10AM service at Christ The King Catholic Church at 2623 Perez St. Burial to follow at San Fernando Cemetery #2. Special thanks and immense gratitude to the caring staff of VITAS Hospice Care.
