He was in the comfort of his home, at peace and surrounded by the love and support of his wife, family and friends.
Horace was born on March 13, 1942 in San Antonio, Tx. He devoted his life to public service and retired from the State Department of Human Resources. Horace was active in the community and found joy in helping others. He was a court appointed child advocate for CASA, volunteered at the SAMMinistries, and was Santa to so many kids through the Elf Louise program. He also loved being a football referee, a passion which spanned several decades. After retirement, Horace worked part-time at Fiesta Texas where he met and impacted so many lives. He even worked in theater there for a short while, playing the part of shepherd, in The Majesty of Christmas show.
Horace is survived by his wife Gloria Cardenas; step-daughter Liza Garcia (Roy); granddaughter Mia Milan Garcia (his "Sunshine"), daughter Sonia Hernandez (Manuel); and son Chadwick Cardenas. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous "favorite" nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Horace Cardenas, Sr (Margarita), and mother Rebecca Perez (Jimmy).
The family would also like to thank the health providers at AccentCare and ComfortKeepers for their love and support over the past few months.
