Guadalupe Lopez Rodriguez, of San Antonio, passed away on January 18, 2022, at the age of 85 years. She married her beloved husband of 53 years, Raul Rodriguez on March 16, 1968. A lifelong musician and singer, Guadalupe inherited her musical skills from her mother and thrived in the City of San Antonio alongside many prestigious musicians gaining notoriety for her powerful voice in Ranchera. She gained her name as she was blessed to be born on the day of our Virgencita Morena and dedicated her life to honoring her and serenading her on this special day! Lupe attended St. Leonard’s Catholic Church, where she was part of the choir group for many years.
Guadalupe was presented an award by late Mayor Lila Cockrell for a Senior music competition and won best of show. Two key dates in her music career included performing for the late Archbishop Patrick Flores at the Archdiocese and a song along with Mariachi in front of the courthouse for Rev. Jesse Jackson. In addition to performing at the Guadalupe Theater during intermission, Guadalupe also collaborated with Legendary Willie ‘El Curro’ Champion (a well-known Flamenco guitarist and husband of Teresa Champion flamenco dancer) on several serenatas. She and her sister Celia Ybarra performed as a duet known as Las Hermanitas Lopez at Lerma's nightclub as well as many performances at El Ranchito nightclub. Guadalupe went on to make 2 appearances at Sabado Gigante where she was a contestant who won $1000 in 1990 and made a second appearance again for their 5th-anniversary show. She would bring along her music for several serenatas at birthdays, functions, Dia de las Madres, and every opportunity to share her gift with anyone willing to listen.
She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel Lopez and Sofia V. Lopez, son Camilo Marmolejo III, granddaughter, Celina Marmolejo, siblings Juanita Lucio, Amelia Cadena, Arturo Lopez, Antonio Lopez and Joe Lopez. She is survived by siblings, Enrique Lopez, Celia Ybarra, and Sara Lopez, her 6 children: Alejandro Marmolejo, Daniel Marmolejo (Archie), Yolanda Montemayor (Steve), Christine Flores, Laura Martinez (Christopher), Esmeralda Gonzalez and 26 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Lupe …..wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, friend, and the matriarch of the Rodriguez family, left a lasting legacy and will never be forgotten.
The Visitation will be held Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, Texas 78237, followed by a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Procession will depart from the funeral home on Friday, January 28, 2022 11:15 a.m. for a 12:00 p.m. Mass of The Resurrection at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 8510 S. Zarzamora Street, San Antonio, Texas 78224. Interment will follow in San Fernand Cemetery III, 1735 Cupples Road, San Antonio, Texas 78226.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions and on behalf of The Rodriguez Family, facial coverings are to be worn at all times while in the funeral home building. The Family is requesting to practice social distancing and refrain from personal contact with surviving husband, Mr. Raul R. Rodriguez.
