Guadalupe Sosa Martinez (Lupe) born December 10, 1937 in San Antonio, Texas passed away on December 20, 2017 at the age of 80. She was a graduate of St. Joseph (So. San) Catholic School, South San High School and San Antonio Junior College.Ms. Martinez retired from Kelly Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas after 35 years of work.
Lupe was an active member at St. Leonard Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas since 1967. She was the first woman Eucharistic Minister selected by the pastor Father, Eustace Struckhoff. Lupe was also an active member of the Guadalupana Society where she presided as president. Ms. Martinez was a member of the St. Leonard Parish Council during Father, Brennen’s tenure at the parish. Lupe enjoyed helping the community by volunteering to lead the community project called Project Quest (a program that included the parishes of St. Leonard, St. Joseph (So. San), St. Claire, St. Bonaventure and Our Lady of the Angels). The program sought to encourage drop out students to continue their education and thus improve their careers. Volunteers from participating parishes worked weekly as a great team. Guadalupe was a member of the ACTS (Adoration, Community, Theology and Service retreat, and she looked forward to the opportunity to attend the monthly Prayer Group, Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
Lupe’s love of travel took her to numerous places visiting and touring with family and friends both within the states and out of the country. She also enjoyed sports, her favorite teams being the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs.
Lupe will lovingly be remembered by her brother, Raymond Martinez (Marilyn), and sisters, Irene Hernandez (Arthur) and Maria Hatfield (Maurice). She will also be remembered by her seven nephews, five nieces, as well as numerous grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins, special friends and neighbors.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. On Thursday, December 28, 2017 a Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. with procession to follow for interment at San Fernando II Cemetery.
