Gordon Ray Stryker was born August 23, 1924, in West Nanticoke, PA. and died February 12, 2012. He served his country in the U.S. Army, 106th Infantry Division, during World War II as a radio operator and survived the Battle of the Bulge. He was a graduate of Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. (class of 1949). Gordon retired from USAA in 1986. He was an insurance underwriter and held the professional designation CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter). He also taught Insurance Underwriting at San Antonio College. Gordon was a member of the USAA Golden Eagles and American Legion. Gordon was a member of the Masonic Puritan Lodge in Reading, PA., the Knight’s Templar in Glen Ellyn, IL., the Kenedy Eastern Star, and served as the Worshipful Master of the Stockdale Masonic Lodge. Gordon was preceded in death by his father and mother, Adonis Gordon Stryker and Marguerite Jones Stryker, brother, James Nelson Stryker (MIA in Korea), and wife of 24 years, Elizabeth Jane Jones Stryker. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Polly H. Stryker, daughter and son-in-law Jane and Rick Wilson, grandson Ricky and wife Jocelyn Wilson, great-grandchildren, Noah and Naomi, granddaughter Elizabeth Wilson, step-son and daughter-in-law Darrell and Sandra Henry, granddaughter Kristie Henry, great-grandchildren Brilynn and Hunter, grandson John Wayne Henry, step-son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Jeanne Henry, grandson Lance Henry, step-daughter and son-in-law Danell and Jacob Jimenez, grandchildren Heather, Jordan, and Jeremy Jimenez, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law John Milton and Shirley Dudley and Bobby and Jimmie Lou Humphries. A memorial service will be held at University United Methodist Church, 5084 DeZavala Road, Monday, February 20, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Will Rice officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to USAA Golden Eagles, Stockdale Masonic Lodge, Stockdale Museum, Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
