Gerald, known as Jerry to family and friends, retired from the City of San Antonio after over 22 years of service. While working at the City, he received several accolades as an exemplary employee. He then worked as a Security Guard and currently he was working for Bexar County. He was a 1976 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. He enjoyed refurbishing the house where he had lived since birth and enjoyed working on his truck. This past Thanksgiving he spoke of his happiness to have completed several major home improvement projects while contemplating the next project he was to begin. He was very happy about the orange tree that still grows at his home. The tree produced wonderful oranges that he shared with family and friends each Christmas season. He also tended the old pecan tree that would produce an abundant crop of pecans each year…again he shared the bounty of that old tree with family, friends and neighbors. An avid health enthusiast and exercise buff, Jerry had his own training equipment and membership at a local gym.
Jerry is survived by: a daughter, Valencia Teresa Alvarez Salazar; his sister, Mona Alvarez Lopez; Christopher Lopez, nephew; Louis Lopez, nephew and his wife, Michelle; great nephews Sabian and Xavier; Jerry’s other sister, Angelika Alvarez Rocha; nieces Andrea Rocha and Aurelia Rocha. In addition, living relatives include: Ramiro Alvarez, his uncle; and Uncle Ramiro’s wife Rosita Alvarez; children of Uncle Ramiro and Aunt Rosita: Maria Teresa, Mike, Tony, Guadalupe, et.al.
