George Charles Wallis, the son of Charles and Hazel Adelle (McCue) Wallis, was born September 30, 1945, on a farm near Little Sioux, Iowa. He attended grade school in Farmington, New Mexico, grades five to eleven in Morehead, Iowa, and graduated from East Monona High School in 1963. During high school, he was a member of the band, the official scorekeeper for the basketball teams, and spent summers working jobs on neighboring farms. George’s parents had two horses they trained, and the family participated in many horse shows during the summer months. George was a baptized member of the Moorhead Christian Church and active in the CYO youth group, vacation bible school, and church camps. In 1970, he joined the University Lutheran Church in Ames, Iowa.
George joined the Iowa Army National Guard in May 1967. He trained at Ft. Lewis, Ft. Ord, and began active duty at Ft. Carson, Colorado in May 1968. He served in the 101st Airborne Division as a Specialist in Bien Hoa, Vietnam in 1969. He was awarded an Expert Infantry Badge and was an Honor Graduate of the 101st Airborne Division Leadership Course. In May 1970, George graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science.
After meeting at Iowa State, George was united in marriage to Patricia Mordhorst on April 26, 1969. George and Pat spent their first five years of marriage in Jefferson, Iowa; Salina, Kansas; and Shawnee Mission, Kansas. From 1974 to 1984, George ran a family farm in Irwin, Iowa, and was very active in the Lutheran Church, Irwin Volunteer Fire Department, Irwin Rescue Unit, Lions Club, and Irwin Community Building project. In 1984, George began a sales position with a meat company in Mesquite, Texas. From 1986 to 2007, George worked as a Manager for three different meat companies in San Antonio, Texas. From 2007 until his retirement in 2012, George worked for Northside ISD Transportation. He was an active volunteer for church events, at schools, and coached little league baseball.
George was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed family gatherings, sports, band, and other events his sons and grandchildren pursued. His family values, wit, work ethic, and spiritual guidance have been an inspiration to his family and friends.
Preceding him in death are his grandparents, parents, two brother-in-laws, and a sister-in-law. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years Patricia; his sister Linda Snodgrass; three sons, Kyle (Angela) Wallis of Prosper, Texas; Kent (Heather) Wallis of Round Rock, Texas; Mark (Jennifer) Wallis of Round Rock, Texas; and nine grandchildren: Jared, Grant, Owen, Brody, Taylen, Powers, Boone, Waylon, and Ryder.
Please accept our sincere gratitude for the many loving gestures extended to us at this time of loss.
