George J. Herman entered into eternal peace on May 30, 2015 at the age of 75. He was born on September 1, 1939 in Sioux City, Iowa and was raised on a farm in South Dakota. At the age of 17 he began his military career, first in the United States Air Force and then in the U.S. Army where he served his country for 20 years. During that time he married the love of his life Sandra in May 1963 and together were blessed with a loving family and were married for 52 years until his passing. While in the military he traveled to Europe and Asia. He was also stationed at numerous military bases "state side" before bringing his family to San Antonio, Texas and retiring in1977. He then worked for the Baptist Memorial Hospital System for 20 years before retiring a second time.
George loved being outdoors, listening to country music, and watching sports. He will be deeply missed and remembered forever in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Herman Sr. and Anna Herman. His sister Marie Herman and brother-in-law Kim Peniska, all of Sioux City, Iowa. Sister-in-law and husband Karen and Darwin Nelson and nephew Gary Nelson all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include wife Sandra and sons Dale, Rick and Jody Herman, all of San Antonio, Texas. Daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Joseph Willemin and grandsons Joshua and Matthew Willemin, also of San Antonio, Texas. Brother-in-law Donald Peniska of Arlington, Virginia and nephew Alan Herman and family of Sioux City, Iowa. Niece Tammy Beatty and daughter Jennifer, nephew David Nelson and wife Renee, all of Cedar Rapids Iowa.
Graveside services will be at 10:15 a.m. on Monday June 15, 2015 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
