He was preceded in death by his parents George Sr. and Leonora, and Sisters Beatrice Perez and Josephine Mendoza.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Escobar, Daughters Cynthia Hernandez (John), Rachel Cox (Todd), & Georgina Escobar, Sister Marylou Espinoza; Step-Children Rene Pina (Francis), Christine Lopez (Rene), & Daniel Pina (Violette), as well as by his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George was known for his love of the outdoors; whether it was camping, fishing, or having a BBQ. George was known for having a great time. He loved to dance, and always had his ice chest ready to go. He was mostly known as family man who loved his wife and daughters very much.
He graduated from Fox Tech in 1961 here in San Antonio and worked civil service as the machine shop supervisor at Kelly Air Force base for 30+ years, and could fix anything.
While acting as a Docent at Institute of Texas Culture & San Jose Mission he repaired a water wheel that had been out of commission for many years in preparation of President Bush on Aug 29th, 2001. He was also an usher @the Majestic Theatre.
The family asks that George be remembered in the way he would have wanted. Remember the good memories, and have a shot or beer in his honor while listening to The Hometown Boys.
A visitation will be held Thursday March 30th at 6:00PM located at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Rd, San Antonio, TX 78238, with a rosary to follow at 7:00PM. Funeral mass for George S. Escobar Jr. will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 7893 Grissom Rd, San Antonio, TX 78251, on Friday March 31st at 2:00PM.
