Eugene (Gene) Raymond Deibel ,79, died on March 29, 2023 at his residence in San Antonio, TX. He was born on July 19, 1943 in Buffalo, N.Y., son of Mellouise “Babe” (Hubert) Deibel and Raymond A. Deibel. Babe died when Gene was a toddler and Ray then married Mary Catherine Purcell.
Gene graduated from Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, NC following college he enrolled in the University of Buffalo school of business MBA program. After being drafted out of graduate school Gene attended the US Army Finance school at Fort Benjamin Harrison. The Army then assigned him to the Finance office at Camp Zama, Japan. After completing his military service, Gene returned to Buffalo and started to work at Trico Products, a world-wide manufacturer of automotive accessories, notably windshield wipers, blades, pumps and arms. In 1986, he moved to Texas to build two new manufacturing plants on the Texas/Mexico border. Gene retired in 2011 after more than 30 years with the company.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother John.
Surviving is his wife Kathryn (Thurber) Deibel, daughter Sarah (Lee) Hood, sons Timothy (Cecelia) and Thomas (Amanda), six grandchildren and one great grandchild. His surviving siblings are Patricia Deibel, Mary Ann (Peter) Deibel-Braun, Raymond (Maggie) and Bernie (Sue) Deibel.
He enjoyed bowling, travel and was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, San Antonio Spurs and college football.
Gene believed that it was better to give than receive and this motto propelled him to become active in numerous organizations including Chairing Sunday Night Bingo for St Gregory the Great School, serving on the parent Advisory Board of St Joseph Academy and treasurer of American Legion Post 612.
