Garland Lee Burch was born on August 11, 1945 in Reidsville, NC and passed away on July 7, 2019 in San Antonio, TX. He is survived by his wife Wendy (Hanson) Burch, son William Burch, brother Dwight M. Burch and sister Sally Barbour. Garland was preceded in death by his parents Garland D. and Sally (Oakley) Burch and his brother Stuart M.Burch.
Garland graduated from Virginia Tech in the ROTC program in 1968. He served in the Army from 1968 - 1971 and was a Captain in Vietnam from 1970 - 1971. Garland’s career as a physical / geotechnical engineer was long and prosperous, working primarily with Raba Kistner Consultants.
Garland was a loving and responsible husband and father, a son who brought happiness and admiration to his parents, a helpful and caring big brother, an enlightening and inspiring teacher and mentor to many aspiring new engineers, a reliable, helpful, and eminently knowledgeable coworker, a trusted comrade in arms and a most likable and friendly person, who family, friends, coworkers, and casual acquaintances respected and enjoyed.
Garland’s family would like to ask, in lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal rescue group in Garland’s name.
Garland will be laid to rest at Ft. Sam Houston at a date yet to be determined.
