Ester C. Diaz, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 78. She was born on July 16, 1946, in Del Rio, Texas, to Olga and Carlos Contreras. Ester was the embodiment of resilience, ambition, compassion and selflessness.
As a single mother, she balanced the demanding roles of raising her children, working full-time, and pursuing higher education, all while maintaining her dedication to family and friends. Ester’s journey to education was long but rewarding. After ten years of juggling work and family responsibilities, she proudly earned her bachelor’s degree. Her commitment to education never wavered as she continued her educational pursuits by obtaining her master’s degree in social work. With a passion for protecting the vulnerable, Ester became a Program Director for Child Protective Services, focusing specifically on cases involving child sexual abuse. Her work was more than a job; it was a noble calling and profession, one that allowed her to make a profound, positive difference in the lives of countless children and families.
Family was always Ester’s greatest priority. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, constantly showering her loved ones with affection and support. Her home was filled with warmth, laughter, and love, and she never missed an opportunity to create lasting memories with her family. Ester’s love of travel took her to many places, but her heart always found peace and joy at the coast in Port Aransas, TX, her favorite quick getaway where she could decompress and re-energize.
Ester's generosity and selflessness knew no bounds. She constantly put the needs of others before her own, ensuring that her family and friends felt cherished and cared for. Her kindness extended beyond her immediate circle; she maintained lifelong friendships, always staying in touch and nurturing the bonds that meant so much to her.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Ester is survived by her son, Fred Diaz; daughter, Analisa Diaz; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, David Contreras (Delores) and Carlos Contreras; and a wide circle of friends who will miss her kind and joyful spirit deeply.
