December 31, 1930 - October 30, 2020
Elvira Gomez Sanchez entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 30, 2020, at the age of 89 surrounded by her daughters. She was born on December 31, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas.
Elvira was a loving mother of nine children including a son who suffered cognitively and physically for thirteen years due to a childhood illness. She never exhausted in tending to his needs while raising her other children in a home that was faithful, joyful, and humble. Faith in God and family were the most important values in her life, and she instilled the importance of them to her son and daughters.
While motherhood was her priority, she engaged in hobbies of her own. She was fond of sewing; she sewed dresses, cheer uniforms, dance costumes, and elaborate costumes for her daughters and grandchildren. She enjoyed attending her family’s performances at Fiesta Noche Del Rio for twenty-seven years, where the Kiwanians led her to her favorite seat at the Arneson River Theater. Warmer days brought her outdoors where she loved tending to her beautiful roses. She also found delight in her travels with family to places such as Disneyworld, Disneyland, and numerous pilgrimages to the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle to light candles for promises made.
Elvira was blessed to become a grandmother and was actively involved in the daily lives of her family where she provided care, encouragement, and selfless concern for others. Late in her life, she fought cancer with great courage and strength. She was an epitome of courage, gratitude, and great faith in God.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Manuel and Genoveva Gomez, and her
grandparents Ruben and Agapito Sanchez; husband of 62 years, Arturo C. Sanchez; sons,
Arturo G. and Armando G. Sanchez, as well as two brothers and a sister. She is survived by
her daughters, Rachel (Presiliano) Valenzuela, Rosemary (Richard) Mendoza, Yolanda S.
McGlothlin, Diana (Donald) Servais, Maria Elena (Sean) Barron, Janet (Michael) Perez,
Elizabeth (Gerald) Lopez, daughter-in-law, Ofelia H. Sanchez, as well as 23 grandchildren and
32 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Manuela Gomez, Maria Santoya,
Dolores Tristan, Angie Gomez (sister-in-law) her brother, Juan Gomez; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be affectionately remembered and deeply missed. A private rosary will be held on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home.
