San Antonio native Elizabeth Stutz Bishop, known fondly as Libby to her many friends, passed away at her home on February 9, 2012 at the age of 79. Libby was a prolific and award-winning poet and longtime member of the Poetry Society of Texas and the San Antonio Poets’ Association, where she was named Poet Laureate in 1990. She was a founding member of both the San Antonio Poetry Fair and the Alamo Area Poets of Texas. Libby is preceded in death by her husband Carl A. Bishop, mother Betty Stutz Churchill and father Charles Falley.
She is survived by her children Cynthia E. Rook and husband Kevin Rook of San Antonio, son Carl Justin Bishop of San Antonio, sister Nanci Falley of Lockhart, and Steve Falley of Laredo.
Visitation will be held at 12p.m. on Friday February 17, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 1:30p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Animal Defense League of Texas.
