Edward (Ed) A. Nash, Jr., Lt Col (USAF/Ret) was born March 1, 1918 in Stettler Alberta, Canada. Ed passed from this life on December 5, 2016 at the age of 98. Ed was the oldest of four children born to Edward and Maude Nash. At the age of four, he and his parents along with one sister moved to Mississippi from Stettler Alberta, Canada. He had two sisters, Betty Nash Steele and Moudella Nash Riales, and a brother, Chestley, who with his parents preceded him in death.
Ed enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC’s) in June 1939 and was drafted into the Army in June 1941. While in navigation training at Hondo Air Base, Ed met Gladys Davis. They were married in June 1943. After completing navigation training, Ed flew 29 missions in B-24 bombers while assigned to the 8th Air Force in England. He served the remainder of his Air Force career with S.A.C., and the training command with a tour in England and Korea. He retired from the Air Force in 1961. He and Gladys with their daughter, Joyce, moved to San Antonio in 1962. Ed worked as a Civilian Contracting Officer at Kelly AFB for 18 years during which he served 2 years in Tuslog Hdqt, Ankara Turkey.
After retiring from civil service in 1980, he and Gladys traveled extensively with their travel trailer in the US and Canada. In 1994, they moved to Air Force Village II. After over 60 years as best friends and lovers, Gladys passed from this life in October 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Goodwin and her fiancé Patrick Rowe of San Antonio; and sister-in-law, Helen Nash of Vicksburg, MS.
A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home with interment to follow at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
