Edith Grace Ortega

Edith Grace Ortega, age 67, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024. She was born August 19, 1956 in San Antonio, Texas to Edwina Araiza and Genaro DeLeon. She graduated from Fox Tech High School. Later on into her adult life she would attend and graduated from St. Mary's University, where she would go on to work there in administration for 28 years.

Edith loved her family dearly and was never afraid to shoulder all the work at once. She cared for her husband, mother, children and attend college all at the same time. She loved gardening and admiring flowers, and there wasn't anything she couldn't do with a needle and thread. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and grandchildren, who she adored so much. Edith liked to watch old westerns and classical movies when she relaxed. Her cats, Travis and Whiskers, were like her own children too.

Edith is preceded in death by her mother, Edwina Araiza; and brother, Richard DeLeon. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Miguel "Michael" Ortega; her 4 children, Angela C. Ortega, Michael C. Ortega (Stephanie), Andrew P. Ortega (Amanda), and Megan R. Ortega (Evelyn); her 4 grandchildren, Paloma G. Ortega, Maya L. Ortega, Aaron J. Ortega, and Allison G. Ortega; and her siblings, Edward DeLeon, Belinda Zavala, Robert DeLeon, and Maribel McElroy.

A visitation for Edith will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 9:00 AM with a rosary being recited at 9:30 AM at St Patrick Catholic Church, 1114 Willow St, San Antonio, TX 78208.The funeral mass will begin at 10:00 AM. A committal service will occur the following day, Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 10:15 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
