Dora Mae departed this life exactly 90 years after entering it. Her parents were Earl Clinton Hamilton and Ethel Barbara Rietze. Dora Mae attended schools in San Antonio, including Brackenridge High School. During her last year at Brackenridge, she was a lieutenant in the boys’ ROTC. She married Herman Paul Hoekstra on Christmas night, in 1950. They were the second couple to be married at Bethany Presbyterian Church, formerly Denver Boulevard Presbyterian Church. They were still a loving couple, with Herman taking care of her after she fell and was left having to use a wheelchair and walker.
She is survived by her husband, Herman Paul Hoekstra; her daughter Sandra Kaye Potts, and her son Dustin; her son William Andrew Hoekstra; and her son Richard Earl Hoekstra, DVM, his wife Traci, and his sons Jonathan, Christopher, and Matthew. Dora Mae is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and their children, all of whom she considered her grandchildren.
Dora Mae was dearly loved and will be missed by all her family and friends. May she rest in peace until they meet again. A special thanks to Dora Mae’s niece, Betty Höhn, and her family, especially to Kimberly Höhn, for her work in keeping her home so clean and livable.
Visitation will be on Friday July 29, 2016 from 6pm – 8PM at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Saturday July 30, 2016 at 10:00AM at Sunset Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
