Cheryl leaves behind to cherish her memory her sisters, Deborah Ann D’Amico and Gayle Elizabeth Mullins; daughters, Moriah Lyn Vargas, Jayla Joy Lochte, and Kaylee Marie Martinez; and her grandchildren, Frederick James Lochte, Solomon Troy Vargas, and Bentlee Matthew Hernandez.
Cheryl meets in Heaven her father, Eugene Nagy and mother, Phyllis Martelli.
Cheryl loved to play golf during her free time with friends and family. She would go on hikes, walk with friends and ride her bike whenever she could; she loved being outside and active. Cheryl enjoyed drinking a glass of wine and sharing laughs with friends, especially on the back porch of her home. MeetUp was an online organization she used to socialize and participate in different activities. Cheryl was a hosting enthusiast and loved hosting parties or gatherings at our family home; “another party on Forward Pass” was always the phrase.
Cheryl achieved her Bachelors of Arts from Southern Illinois University with a major in Fine Arts and a minor in Design. She also earned her Bachelors of ELED with a major in K – 5th General Studies and K – 8th Art from Governor State University. She managed her own Faux Finish and Wall Mural business and for over 20 years did Creative Painting. She was an innovative artist and was constantly learning to create new things.
Cheryl’s personality and sayings made her stand out in life. Cheryl loved to host all events she could from birthday BBQs to all of our graduation parties as well as our bridal showers and baby showers. She was a leader and so strong. She could grill while simultaneously cooking food in the oven and could fix the sink when it broke. She could be covered in paint during the day and then get all dolled up for a social event within minutes. She loved to kayak and try all new sports and activities. A saying she lived by was “more the merrier”. She could make any house feel like a home; she could make any stranger feel like family within a matter of seconds. “If there is a will, there is a way,” she would always say, which is where her strength and determination came from.
Cheryl made sure everyone was taken care of before her needs were met, such a selfless woman. She was the most loving, caring person I have ever met; she made sure to tell us all the time that she loved us so much.
She would drop anything within seconds to be there for someone who needed her.
My mom could make conversation with any and all people. Her compassion and love for life was contagious. Her love for her daughters is what she will be remembered for the most.
A celebration of life for Cheryl will be held Monday, December 19, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232.
