It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Patrick Cain on September 27, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at home in his sleep with the sweetest smile on his face, as if he knew he was being called home.
Charles (“Charlie”) was born on March 20, 1955 to Joseph and Patricia Cain in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Holmes High School in 1973 and was a member of the International Supreme Council of the Order of De Molay. He learned at a young age working with his father, a Bible publisher, he had a passion for printing and entrepreneurship that would last forever. He took pride in his work as a business owner and loved showing off his art as a printer. He strived for perfection and wanted to help his customers and nonprofit organizations bring their vision to life, always making sure to leave them with a smile on their face.
As an adult, Charlie had a heart of gold, always looked for ways to help others in any way possible and always fought for what he believed was right. He lived on his own time, moving at his own pace, taking the time to take in every moment and truly enjoy life. He had a passion for the ocean and fish, always looking forward to the next trip to the coast and spending his time perfecting his beautiful aquariums. He truly had a special connection with all of his pets – his fish even followed him as he entered the room! Riding dirt bikes with his siblings, Charlie developed a love for motorcycles as a young boy. He loved adventure and enjoyed feeling the freedom of the open road as he rode his Harley through the Texas Hill Country. He had an eclectic taste in music and enjoyed several genres, to include classic rock, oldies, and country always playing something in the background. Some of his favorite artists included The Eagles, Don Henley, Willie Nelson, Aerosmith, Linda Ronstadt, and George Strait. Charlie was a loyal, die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs never missing a game. He loved to bar-b-que, loved food (meat, potatoes, and SWEETS), and relaxing in his hammock surrounded by nature listening to the peaceful calm of the wind.
However, Charlie’s greatest love and joy in life, without a doubt, was his family. He was the most incredible and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife, soulmate, best friend, and partner of 41 beautiful years, Desi Cain; daughter, Sarah Finch; son- in-law, Chayne Finch; son, Timothy Cain; daughter-in-law, Beatrice Cain; six grandchildren, Kylie Finch, Lincoln Finch, Preston Cain, Evan Cain, Jason Cashat, and Wyatt Umlauf; four siblings, Christine Flowers, Ronnie Cain, Joseph Cain, and Gary Cain; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Charlie was a peaceful man with the sweetest soul who touched all of our hearts with his humor, sarcasm, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family. He lived, loved, protected, and provided for his family to the very end; always ensuring they were well taken care of.
Charlie was an insightful man who would bring a smile or laughter to most moments of seriousness with his dry humor and had a language only those closest could understand (“HMMMM”). He could quote a line from pretty much any movie and did so often (“The force is strong with this one”). There was no “being serious” in Charlie’s world. Not even his cancer diagnosis could change his outlook on life. He faced it head on like a warrior and never gave up fighting. Even in the end, when his family wanted to do nothing more than break down and cry, he found a way to make us laugh with his big eyes and obvious facial expressions that spoke clearly to us. Cancer didn’t cripple his love, shatter his hope, or conquer his spirit. In the end, he declared “I WON!”
As we say our goodbyes, let us remember the love, laughter, and precious moments we all shared. His memory will live on in our hearts and minds forever, and may we find comfort in knowing that he is at peace in his forever home, looking over all of us. We will see you again soon.
In honor of Charlie’s memory, we will be celebrating his life at Oak Valley Vineyard on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11 a.m.
