Cecilia T. Jasso

This gracious, thoughtful, wise, generous woman during her lifetime made many significant contributions to her country, to her family and to her friends. She returned ‘Home‘ peacefully surrounded by family and friends.

Cecilia was born in New Braunfels Texas to Maria Hernandez and Eustacio ‘Tacho’ Talamantez. She was an only child and was blessed with adoring and loving parents. Both preceded her in death. Before Cecilia was born, her father ‘Tacho’ was already serving in the United States Army and involved in the WWII campaign. It would be three years before Cecilia would meet her father.

The Talamantez family eventually relocated to San Antonio, Texas where Cecilia attended Mark Twain middle school and then enrolled at San Antonio Vocational (Tech) High School. Cecilia graduated in 1961 with Honors and as Vice President of her Senior class.

After graduation, Cecilia began her working career at Kelly Air Force Base as a ‘ key punch operator’. This would be the beginning of a career that would take her to the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit as the judicial assistant to the Chief Judge.

Cecilia enjoyed a long and distinguished career serving within the Federal Judiciary. Her work ethic, her professionalism and her unfailing loyalty earned her high praise from all of the Judges for whom she served.

Those Federal Judges include Larry Kelly and Leif M Clark, both United States Bankruptcy Judges for the Western District of Texas.

Carl Bue, United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas in Houston and John R Brown, Chief Judge for the United States Court of Appeals also in Houston.

Judge Clark remembers ‘CJ’ fondly not only for her organizational skills and for her absolute loyalty, but also for her friendship.

As a young woman in her early 20’s she established her independence and courage by leaving her family and friends and joining Eastern Airlines. She worked as Flight Attendant flying from her new home base of New York City to numerous great cities in the Southern Hemisphere.

It was while attending Tech High School that she met the ‘Love of her Life’ Frank T Jasso. After seven years of friendship and courtship, Cecilia and Frank married at St Ann’s Catholic Church in San Antonio on September 02, 1967. They remained husband and wife in the partnership of Marriage for 55 years until the Lord chose to call Cecilia Home.

After marrying Frank, she was welcomed into the very large Jasso family and immediately became a favorite of all the uncles and aunts.

As the years passed she became an important member of the family and she was honored to assume a leadership role in many family functions.

Cecilia and Frank were not blessed with children of their own, but the countless children of the Jasso family were the beneficiaries of her love and guidance. Cecilia became a second Mother to three generations of Jasso children who all love her deeply.

This was her greatest gift.

Cecilia enjoyed keeping up with current events both local and national. Her morning ritual was to watch the early news shows on television. Then read the newspaper along with her morning cup of coffee.

She also enjoyed the many trips to Las Vegas, Nevada and Cancun, Mexico.

She never tired of the lights and entertainment of Las Vegas nor the calm and peace that comes from lounging on the beach with Frank and with her great friends in Cancun.

Most of all Cecilia loved being at home with Frank. Her goal was to be ‘Happy

Every Day’. To live a quiet and uncomplicated life that focused on family, love, faith, friendship and sharing with others whatever was needed.

Cecilia’s legacy will live through her six Godchildren and through the three generations of Jasso children whom she loved, guided and taught them to love each other and to love family and to have faith in the Lord.
