Catherine Louise Bennett (McCoy), nicknamed “Kay,” age 102, passed away peacefully at home with her family on January 27, 2022 in San Antonio. She’s in her heavenly Father’s arms and rejoicing with family and friends. She was born in San Antonio on September 27, 1919 to Winniefred & James McCoy.
Kay is predeceased by her husband, Leonard Mark Bennett, her mother, father, three sisters Merle Irvin (Dempsey), Mary Wolma (Tommy) and Ruby McCoy and one brother Jack McCoy.
She’s survived by her loving daughter, Markene and son-in-law Terry Warth. Loving nieces she was very close to Peggy Meiske (Doug), Linda Lynd (David), Susan McCullough, Bonnie Bailey, Susan King (Anthony), Missy Goerner (Herb) and grand and great nieces and nephews plus a great-great niece and nephew.
Kay loved the Lord and the large family gatherings, knew family history, grew up during the Great Depression and always had a beautiful smile. She worked at USAA from 1949 until 1986. She loved entertaining as a member of the Trinity Baptist ukulele band. We’ll cherish her memories and never forget her boundless love.
Kay grew up on Prospect Hill since her father worked for the railroad. She worked at USAA on Grayson Street in 1949 and retired from USAA in 1984. Before USAA, she worked at The Big Orange, Sommers Drug Store, The Vogue Department Store and as an elevator operator and in payroll at CPS.
She and Leonard lived for a short while in California, Washington State and Ohio during World War II when he was a Civil Servant. Kay loved wearing her cowboy boots. She stayed behind when he was in England working for Station “X” during WWII. She loved making friends who called her “the Yellow Rose of Texas.”
