Carmela Sanchez Rodriguez went to be with our Heavenly Father on April 11, 2016. She was born on June 5, 1934 in San Antonio, TX. She was the second of four children born to Carolina Cuellar and Xavier B. Sanchez. Carmela attended Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Teresa’s Academy Boarding School up to her freshman year in high school. She then transferred to St. Henry’s Academy and graduated in May of 1953. Carmela continued her education at Durham’s Business College where she obtained a degree in secretarial studies. She worked as a legal secretary for a local attorney. Throughout her life she enjoyed volleyball, playing the piano, and flamenco dancing. She was a member of the Junior LULAC and was an active socialite. Carmela married her high school sweetheart, Leopoldo Luciano Rodriguez, on August 21, 1955 at San Fernando Cathedral. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2005. Carmela’s true passion in life was her devotion to the Catholic Church, caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leopoldo, daughter Leticia Ramirez, and brothers Carlos Sanchez and Xavier Sanchez. She is survived by her brother Richard Sanchez; daughters Maria del Carmen Rodriguez Trevino, Annabelle Rodriguez Gomez, and Denise Rodriguez De La Rosa; sons-in-law, Robert P. Trevino, Rick Gomez, Richard Ramirez; grandchildren, Richard Anthony and Jennifer McCauley Gomez, Laura Marie and Anthony James Dittmar, Celina Ann Gomez, Bianca Michelle and Jason Edward Mero, Robert Emerick Trevino, Richard John, Christopher Paul, and Katherine Theresa Ramirez, Sabrina Marie, Emily Beth, and Marco Carlos De La Rosa. Great grandchildren, Stefania Michelle and Vincenzo Edward Mero and Gwen Mabel Gomez and numerous nieces, and nephews.
The family will be receiving guests at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke's Catholic Church, located at 4603 Manitou on Tuesday, April 19th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II.
