

SGM Billy M. White went home to be with the Lord on June 4, 2014. He was the son of J.A. and Effie White of Pilot Point. Billy served in the military for 26 years serving in Vietnam and Korea, he was born in Darling Mississippi and attended Itawamba County High school and Junior College in Fulton, Mississippi. While in military service, Billy took college courses from the University of Maryland Education Center and also had taken chemistry courses at Texas Christian University. He participated in the non-resident course of the U.S. Army Sergeant Major School at Fort Bliss, Texas. Billy first joined the U.S. Army in January, 1951, receiving his basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Billy was released once his tour of duty ended, but he re-enlisted in 1955 and after serving with the 101st Division at Fort Jackson was assigned to a three year tour with the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii. Returning from Hawaii, Billy was assigned as a weapons instructor with the infantry school at Fort Benning, Ga., for a three-year tour. He attended Ranger School at Ft. Benning, and after serving an additional year as a section leader in weapons platoon at Ft. Benning, he was transferred to the Eighth Army NCO academy in Korea, where he taught leadership, physical training and TACT NCO. In 1963, Billy returned to the states and was assigned as commandant of cadets for the Fort Worth High School ROTC units. In 1966, he received orders for duty in Vietnam, serving as a platoon sergeant and first sergeant in the First Air Cavalry Division. Toward the end of his tour , he was a member of the Inspector General’s office for the division. Later on Billy was assigned to ROTC duty at the University of Arkansas and in 1968 served as the only enlisted instructor in the brigade and battalion intelligence department of the infantry school at Ft. Benning. In 1969, Billy was sent to Germany and served as a first sergeant in the 3rd Infantry Division. In 1970, he returned to Vietnam as Operations and Intelligence Advisor to the South Vietnamese Army. In 1977, he became district recruiting sergeant major in San Antonio, serving there until his assignment at Kemper.
Billy is preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years Robbie L. White. Billy is survived by his children Sharon Franklin (Randy), Donna Bost (Clay), Danny White and Sheila Rose (Michael) also grandchildren Michael Fisher (Mia), James Fischer, Richard Stagg II (Sarah), Casey Stagg (Amber), Logan Bost, Heather Lira (Luis), Billy Joe Crandall, Jonas Crandall, Joshua White, Justin White, Heather Kylen (Jeremy) and Stephanie Adams (Dom). Billy is also survived by 13 great- grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Tuesday June 10, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Graveside services will take place 9:30a.m. June 11, 2014 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd San Antonio, Texas 78209.
