Bertha De Los Santos Arizpe, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away September 1, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas. Bertha was born September 2, 1925 in Zuehl, Texas to Pedro De Los Santos and Jovita Valdez De Los Santos. On November 23,1947, Bertha married the love of her life, Facundo Arizpe. It was in San Antonio that the two chose to live and raise a family.
All that knew Bertha understood that a cup of coffee and some lively conversation around the table brought her tremendous joy. A smile and a kind word for all was her trademark and family was her life. She was known affectionately and lovingly by many names but her favorites were Momma (Dad’s favorite), Mom, Namaw, Momo, Nana, and Tia.
Bertha is survived by her 5 children and their spouses; Robert and Shirley Arizpe, John and Judy Arizpe, Steve and Charissa Arizpe, Joyce and Keith Gordon and Jackie and Paul Lewis. Bertha was blessed with 13 grandchildren (and spouses) and 8 great-grandchildren; Dionne and Randy Franco, Alexandra, Kara, and Oliver, Aaron and Diana Arizpe, Andre Arizpe, Lesley Arizpe and Luke, Taylor and Megan Arizpe, Carson and Caroline, Kemper Arizpe, Benton Arizpe, Michael Arizpe, Christine Arizpe, Brayden and Gisella, Kelsey and Tommy Williams, Shelby Gordon, Matthew Lewis and Ryan Lewis. It was with a warm heart that she was expecting the arrival of 2 more great grandchildren.
Bertha was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Facundo and her 6 siblings; Josefa Valdez, Tomas De Los Santos, Benigno De Los Santos, Carlota Garza, Pedro De Los Santos and Raul De Los Santos.
A visitation will begin on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A procession will depart the funeral home on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. for 10:00 a.m. Mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 8134 Blanco Road, San Antonio, TX 78216. Interment will immediately follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78209.
The family wishes to thank Amalia Hernandez, caregiver and friend, and the staff of Davita and Trinity EMS for their loving kindness towards Bertha these past few years.
