Benjamin passed away peacefully at home after a short illness. He leaves his wife of 75 years and 9 months, Hazel Fern; a son and his wife, Earl and Nancy Young of Dallas; his daughter and her husband, Kathy and Jim Cannon of San Antonio. He is also survived by his sister, Doris McElhinney of Reno and his brother and wife, Rex and Barbara Young of Bakersfield. He has six grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Benjamin is pre-deceased by his parents, James Benjamin and Bessie Jacobson Young of San Fernando; a brother and his wife Elbert and Georgia Young of Peachtree City; a brother-in-law John McElhinney of Granada Hills and a grandson, Benjamin Yokoi of San Antonio. Born and raised in Fredrick, Oklahoma until the dust bowl forced the family to flee to California in 1936. They settled in San Fernando. He is a graduate of San Fernando High School, a Veteran of WWII, proudly serving in the United States Army. After his discharge he and his father established YOUNG'S RADIATOR SHOP on Truman Street. After forty years as a successful business owner he retired in 1986 to enjoy traveling, golf and his grandchildren. It was his passion to serve as an elder for the San Fernando Church of Christ on Glenoaks Blvd. In 2007 the Youngs moved to San Antonio and became members of the North West Church of Christ. As a "Texan" he enjoyed cheering for the Texas Rangers baseball team. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Christian Senior Services of San Antonio which administers the "meals on wheels" program.
