He was born on July 13, 1936, to Walter and Julie (Granato) Wenske in San Antonio, where he graduated from Harlandale High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Science from the American Technological University.
He joined the U.S. Army in March 1960 and retired from the military in 1980 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war, serving two tours of duty.
During his military career, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Meritorious Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster; National Defense Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Star and two Bronze Stars; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He was a lifelong athlete earning several letters and awards in tennis, golf, bowling, and skeet shooting. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid fan of college and professional football.
Arthur is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Louis Wenske.
He is survived by his loving wife Janice (Greenwald Claborn) Wenske, daughter Vicki (Wenske) Geiger, son-in-law Del Geiger, son Wayne Wenske, daughter Connie Wenske, granddaughter Claire Geiger, and former spouse Mada (Pepper) Wenske.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 17, followed by a funeral service led by Pastor Michael Wilson of the Medina Church of Christ at 12 noon at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway in San Antonio. A committal service will then take place at 1:35 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
