Arthur Otto Schulze, age 73, passed away on March 5, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. He was always proud to say that he was born on Texas Independence Day, March 2, 1949 in San Antonio, Texas to Alvin Otto Schulze and Anna Mae Erdmann Schulze. Arthur graduated from South San High School and attended Texas A & I University, Kingsville, Texas. In 1975 he was raised to Master Mason at Highland Hills Lodge No. 1373, Scottish Rite 1980 and Arab Shrine in 1980.
Arthur began his commercial construction career as a carpenter working with his father at H. B. Zachry Company. Notable projects in which he was involved were the then innovative prefab rooms constructed for the San Antonio Hilton Palacio Del Rio, and on two of the power plants at Calaveras Lake. Shortly thereafter he signed on with Austin Power, a subsidiary of Austin Industries, Dallas, Texas, as a civil supervisor building concrete turbine pedestals for power plants all over the central United States for 14 years. Health issues required him to leave the construction business and move his family back to San Antonio where he learned to drive big rigs and obtained employment with Steves & Sons, Crest Metal Doors delivering metal doors all over the country until retiring.
Arthur loved hunting and fishing. He also loved traveling, cruising, playing poker and pinocle.
Arthur was introduced to his wife, Diana, by a friend at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo where she was temporarily working. After a three month whirlwind courtship, they were engaged and then married on August 29, 1970.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Diana; his sister Alva Schulmeier and husband Leroy; his children, Kathrine Ann Tondre and husband Steve, Alton Otto Schulze and wife Stacey, grandchildren; nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services and placement in the church columbarium will be at 12 noon, Friday, March 25, 2022 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 502 E. Nueva Street, San Antonio, Texas. Reception will follow in St. John’s Memorial Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Shriners Hospitals for Children or Hope Hospice, New Braunfels.
The family wishes to thank all our family and friends for their help and support during this difficult time. A special thank you to Nikki Hutchison of NB Care Home Management; Antonio and Chris, caregivers at Liberty House Care Home and all the staff at Hope Hospice for their loving care and support in Arthur’s final days.
