Antonio Ortegon, Jr., age 74, passed away January 12, 2022 in San Antonio, TX. He was born in Scottsbluff, NE on November 16, 1947 to Antonio and Maria Alejandra Ortegon. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be dearly missed. A Veteran of the Vietnam War, he served honorably in the United States Army and would not hesitate to tell you how proud he was to have served his country. Antonio lived most of his life in Laredo, TX where he initially worked for the Webb County Sheriff’s Department. He transitioned to the Laredo Police Department and began his career as a police officer/investigator where he retired after 27 years. He was an avid Big Foot fan and was known to his loved ones as The Eagle. Even though he was the best Dad in the world, his grandkids were his pride and joy. He would often say, “Never fear, Grandpa’s here!”
Mr. Ortegon was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Maria Alejandra; sisters, Angie Rendon and Antonieta (Julio) Trevino; brothers, Arturo, Alejandro and Andy.
The Eagle is survived by his wife, Mary F. Ortegon; daughters, Christina (Clay) Erwin, Monica Ortegon, Annie (Daniel) Christensen and Stephanie Ortegon (Mark Marquez); grandchildren, Grace, Danny, Casey, Layla and Mason; siblings, Reynaldo (Norma) Ortegon, Ana Maria (Casimiro) Lozano III; sisters-in-law Sylvia Ortegon and Martha Ortegon; brother-in-law Jimmy (Gloria) Evans; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be 5pm, Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, Rosary to follow at 7pm. The Funeral Service will begin with Military Funeral Honors at 3:30pm, Monday January 24, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel.
A catered reception will follow at the Sunset Reception Hall.
