Antonio (Tony) M. Cantu, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 83 years of age. He was a native of San Antonio, Texas. He joined the Army Air Force at age 16 as a paratrooper and was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky, Fort Meade Maryland, Wyoming , Washington, and his last assignment was in Alaska. He was an electrician, a trade he learned while in the military. After he was discharged from the military he started working as an electrician at Randolph Air Force Base where he worked for 34 years until he retired as Supervisor of the Electric Shop. After his retirement he enjoyed life playing golf, his favorite sport. He was also a member of the Army Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Alzafar Shrine Temple. As a Shriner he was a member of the Honor Guard Club and Mini Wheels Club. As a member of these organizations he committed his time and money to help children in need. He welcomed everyone in his home as family. He was a member of the Fort Sam Houston Memorial Services Detachment where he served 17 years. He loved to hunt. He hunted deer and elk in Colorado; quail, mourning and white wing doves in South Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elodia G. Cantu, daughters Cynthia Ann Horgan (Timothy G. Horgan), Christina Marie Lynch (Darrell L. Lynch) grandchildren Melissa Courtney Barnes (Clifton R. Barnes), grandson Luke Anthony Lynch. Step grandchildren Skyler Lamar Simmons, Devin Lee Lynch and Zachary Aaron Lynch, and brother David M. Cantu (Esther Cantu) and numerous nieces and nephews in San Antonio, California and Washington, D.C.
Visitation will be from 6-7p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011 followed by a Prayer Service, Masonic Ceremony and Bagpipes by Piper Stu Simms – Past Potentate at 7 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel.
The Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest, San Antonio, Texas, 78209.
Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.
