With steadfast faith and enduring love for her family and friends, Anne H. Sanna passed away on July 19. 2022.
Anne was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lt. Col. F. P. Sanna whom she was married to for over 69 years.
Devoted mother to her children Theresa Schiffel, Mary Anderson and husband John, Gesi Shroyer, Mark Sanna and wife Jeanne, and her deceased son Luke Sanna and wife Colleen., and to her six grandchildren Sean, Matthew, Meredith, Brendan, Gabriella, and Cecilia, and four great-grandchildren Ella, Elliot, Olivia and Ava. She remained especially close to her brother-in-law, John Sanna.
Anne was born into a Navy family in San Diego, California and grew up in Bremerton, Washington. She attended the University of Puget Sound.
Anne was married on March 9, 1946 and spent the next 25 years traveling the world as an Air Force spouse. She lived on bases in England and Germany and more than 17 military posts throughout the United States. She traveled widely during her life, visiting more than 50 countries and all 50 states of the nation. One of her fondest memories of her travels is having met Pope Pius XII and Pope John XXIII. Following her husband’s retirement from the US Air Force, they settled in San Antonio where Anne has made it her hometown for more than fifty years.
Anne was an active volunteer and community supporter. She was a volunteer reading mentor at Colby Glass Elementary school for more than 28 years. She was a Den Mother and Brownie leader, a Red Cross Volunteer, and committed PTA member. For sustained contribution to the PTA she was awarded Life Member standing by the national Parent Teachers Association.
An avid gardener, Anne loved tending her orchids and African violets and sharing clippings of various plants with friends and neighbors. She was active in many social clubs, particularly her beloved “Bunko Group” and always looked forward to outings and luncheons with her friends. Anne was an active member of the parish of St. Luke’s Catholic church.
The family is deeply grateful to Estelle and Arturo Sandoval and their family who provided tender and loving care to Anne for many years and to Larry and Margy Mirales, who kindly supported and watched over her.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road San Antonio, Texas 78238 with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Luke Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Drive San Antonio, Texas 78228.
