Alfonso Torres Garcia, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2019. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Hortense (“Tencha”) Garcia; two sons Al Danny and Ronnie; grandson Danny, his daughter-in-law Donna; and brother Lee Garcia.
Born 1931, Kingsville, Texas to Charles Sr. and Frances Garcia. Graduated Edison High School in 1949 then enlisted in the USMC. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in the Korean War and the Battle of Chosin in 1950.
Al and Tencha were married in June 1953. From 1962-1966 the Garcia family lived in Tokyo, Japan. Al earned Black Belts in both karate and Judo which he taught at the security Police Academy at Lackland AFB.
In 1971 Al graduated from Southwest TSU with a Bachelor’s in Criminology and retired after 20 years active military service. He worked as a Criminal Investigator for the DA Office before becoming a Special Agent with the Federal government. He also enjoyed teaching Criminology classes at SAC. He spent his last years as a Private Investigator. An avid hunter and swimmer, he spent many hours teaching his sons and grandson both disciplines. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera road on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, January 24, 2019 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 5919 Ingram Road, 78228 with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
