Born the youngest of 9 children to Alex P. and Laura Scheel.
Marine Corps Veteran, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Member of Arthur Gembler American Legion Post 375 for 35 years, serving as the Finance Officer. In his civilian career, Alex was a Food Service Contractor at Lackland AFB for 25 years. As Director of Operations, Southfork Systems, Inc. was the winner of the US Air Force Hennessy award presented to the best food service program in the US Air Force across the globe multiple years in a row. He joined TRDI Dining Facilities at Randolph AFB in 2001 and served as a TRDI Board Member from 2007 until his passing.
Alex lived his life with dignity and grace. He brought a warm humor to his family and friend's lives. He was strong, unstoppable, and lived his 89 years to the fullest! A proud German Texan and a country boy who looked forward to deer hunting season. He honored the callings of husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather with all his heart. He was unified with his wife, Edna, in every step for 67 years. The love they shared is infinite and will live on through their family. They enjoyed traveling while visiting family and churches along the way.
Alex was preceded in death by his wife, Edna, his parents, his daughter Edna Jean (Gina), son Paul, and great-granddaughter Daisy. He is survived by his daughters, Yvonne Woods (Butch), Rhonda Aunkst (David), and Starlene Ashley (Shawn), his grandchildren, Renee, Nicolette, Jessica, James, Alex, Eric, Michael, Emerson, Garrett, Evan, and Laura, and his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Zoe, Aiden, Nyla, Giselle, Jasper, June, Paul, River, and Ruby.
A visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Austin Hwy on Oct. 12th from 5-7 pm with a reading of the Rosary at 7 pm Funeral Mass will be Oct. 13th at Holy Name Catholic Church at 10 am. Mr. Scheel will be taken to his final resting place at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors.
