Alberto graduated from Lanier High School in 1954. After graduating high school, he entered the Coast Guard in 1955. He served a total of nine years and was honorable discharged in 1964. After his military service, Alberto moved back to San Antonio and started working at the United States Post Office. While working at the post office, Alberto met Ignacia “Elle”. After their relationship blossomed, they got married in 1982. Alberto was a big sports fan, he never missed a Dallas Cowboys game or a San Antonio Spurs game. He was also a big softball player. He played from a young age and would play in the Senior Olympics. He played for the San Antonio Jets team and together they won several games and received many different medals. Most of all, Alberto loved his family. He was present with his children and would make sure everything they needed was provided to them. He was at times strict with them, but it was to help raise them.
Alberto will be reunited in heaven with his parents, Julia and Severo Cerda; siblings, Cresencio Cerda, Severo Cerda, Edmundo Cerda, Rogelio Cerda, Julio Cerda, Emilio Cerda, Beatrice Nino, Olga Diaz, and Ninfo Rodriguez.
His memory will forever live in his wife Ignacia “Elle” Cerda of 40 years; children, Emilio Alberto Cerda Jr., Christina Cerda (fiancée Gregory Treviño), and Rogelio Cerda (Jenny); grandchildren, Krysta Cerda, Alissa Ignacia C. Escobar, Xavier Cerda, Jordan Cerda, and Jasmine Cerda. He will also be remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous extended family.
A visitation for Alberto will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home. The Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will occur on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 1:00 PM with the interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
