Albert was born the second son of Agnes Aniol Horvath and Peter Paul Horvath on November 21, 1921 in San Antonio. Albert was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen J. Horvath of 72 years, children Albert P. Horvath Jr. and wife Jan, Stephen Horvath and wife Christine, Jerry Horvath and wife Karen, Glenda Babineaux and husband Louis, and Jeff Horvath and wife Tina. He also is survived by 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was known for his hard work ethic and conservative life style, which he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He survived and assisted his family during the Great Depression by working for neighbors for five cents a day. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp during WWII, which he served as a waist gunner on a B-24 bomber. His plane was shot down over Austria, and he survived severe wounds and German prison Camp for 13 months. He attained the rank of Staff Sargent and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He returned to San Antonio where he stole the heart of his wife Helen. Albert and Helen married, and Albert began employment at Kelly Air Force Base where he worked for 42 years.
Albert enjoyed 38 years of retirement, traveling with his wife Helen, attending family gatherings and reunions, lived as a devout Catholic attending weekly mass, gardened and cared for his pet cows and dog, Corey. He passed on a family tradition of hunting, fishing, and a love of the outdoors to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends and relatives are invited on Friday, December 28, 2018, at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Rd, San Antonio, Texas to meet with family. Viewing is 6-9 p.m., with rosary starting at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Helotes Catholic Church, 13715 Riggs Rd., Helotes, Texas. Immediately following the mass, a lunch will be provided at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Hall, from 10:30 - 12 noon. At 12 noon, the funeral procession will proceed to St. Hedwig Cemetery, 14011 FM1346, St. Hedwig, Texas.
