Family visitation will be Thursday, February 24, at Johnson’s Funeral Home from 4:00 until 6:00 p. m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 25, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Nathaniel Hankins officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Zula was predeceased by her husband of sixty-three years, E. Marvin Hall, Jr., and her daughter, Jacquelyn Hall.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law Kathleen and Roger Juline of San Clemente, CA; Meredythe McGlothlin of San Angelo, Texas; and Patricia Scroggins of Port Hueneme, CA. Surviving grandchildren include Courtney Anne Matson of Hawaii; Alexandra Matson of Kenya; Michelle and Jeff Mell of Ft. Myers, FL; Todd Charles Simons of San Angelo, TX; Thad Marvin Scroggins of Los Angeles, CA; and Victoria Scroggins of New York, New York. Surviving great-grandchildren include Jordan Layne Mell and Ryder Hall Mell of Ft. Myers, FL. Zula is also survived by her beloved companion, her cat Boots.
Zula came to San Angelo in 1935. Five years later, she met and married the love of her life, Marvin Hall, Jr. In 1943, Marvin and Zula became life-long members of First United Methodist Church and the Friendship Bible Class.
Zula enjoyed reading, writing poetry, crocheting, and traveling to the family’s cabin in Colorado. She was a dedicated community volunteer as well as a member of many local service and activity clubs. These included Santa Rita P. T. A., Girl Scouts, Keystone Tri-Hi-Y sponsor, San Angelo Civic Theater, Victory Study Club, Great Books Society, Poetry Society, Altrusa Club, Tom Green County Historical Society, SACC Women’s Golf Association, Sierra Club, San Angelo Symphony Guild, San Angelo Art Museum, Historic San Angelo, Inc., Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Symphony Guild Circle of Honor.
Zula was devoted to her family and friends who loved her deeply in return and who will greatly miss her. Donations may be made to the Wesley Soup Kitchen or First United Methodist Church.
The family wants to express their deep appreciation for the wonderful caregivers that loved and cared for their Mother. They are Ester Reyes, Maria Sepeda, Minnie Munoz, Naomi Ramariz, and Aurora Garcia.
Pall Bearers for the service are Roger Juline, Thad Scroggins, Todd Simons, Paul Juline, Spencer McDonough, and Jeff Mell.
