Born into a large family in Ackerly, TX, she forged close bonds with her brother, six sisters, and her mother, who she adored. Her family soon moved to San Angelo, which remained her lifelong home.
In high school, Maxine met the love of her life, Bobby Bunyard. The two were married shortly after Bobby joined the service. They raised two children, Becky and Ben, and their house became home base for the neighborhood kids.
Maxine loved her cherished friends, just as dearly as her family. She spent many years traveling with them, enjoying countless gatherings and game nights. She loved competing, but she loved winning even more, especially if she could play for quarters.
Maxine worked with her sister, Jody, at Consignments, Etc., buying and selling antiques. She also renovated multiple houses in the Santa Rita area. Her talent for leaving everything more beautiful than she found it was unparalleled.
She volunteered for over 45 years for Meals for the Elderly, and never missed a chance to get her family involved as well. She had a huge heart for people and was always the first person to step up for someone in need.
Maxine loved fiercely, and she held the hand of many of her friends and family as they passed away. Her daughter, Becky, did the same by holding her hand as she went on to be with the Lord. The space she leaves in our hearts will never be filled, but we are so thankful for all the years we had with her. Along our journey there has been many special angels, especially and thank you to Dora, Ester, Diana, Andrea, Irma and Hope.
Maxine is mourned by her children, Becky and Ben, sons-in-law John and David, her grandchildren, Kristin and Alixandre, her great-grandchildren, Burke and Blake, and her sisters, Jody and Peggy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby, brother, Don, and sisters, Pat, Marie, Billie, and Sharon.
A celebration of life will be held for family and dear friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to Meals for the Elderly are requested in Maxine’s memory.
