James Matthew Favila, born on April 3, 1966, finished his battle with brain cancer and entered the gates of heaven on March 14, 2021. James, known as Matt, was born to Jesus and Irma Favila in Sonora, Texas. Matt attended Angelo State University where he studied Government and graduated in 1990. Matt was a family man who always put his loved ones first. Matt was strong in his faith and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Everyone who knew Matt, knows that he loved music, watching the Dallas Cowboys and golfing with a cold Coors Light. Matt was a loving man with a kind smile. He touched everyone’s soul with respect, and never judged a book by its cover. Matt had an impact on several colleagues and people in various workforce fields that he worked in. The Favila family would love to thank all doctors, nurses, and medical caregivers of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The Favila’s would love to also thank everyone who offered thoughts, prayers, and love throughout this journey. Matt is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Irma Favila, and Sister Cindy Favila. Matt is survived by his daughters, Gabriela Favila and grandson Jonah Favila of San Angelo, Texas, Daniella Favila of San Angelo, Texas and Olivia Favila of San Angelo, Texas. His loving wife of almost 28 years, Mercy Favila of San Angelo, Texas. Brother and Sister-in-law Randy and Rita Favila of Arlington, Texas. Nephew Christopher Favila of Arlington, Texas and Niece Monique Apaliski of Plano, Texas. Matt is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and in-laws from all over Texas. A rosary will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held on March 19, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, burial to follow at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Masks are required for all events.
