Mangum Gene “Bud” Waller, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on, May 15, 2022 at the age of 89 in Paint Rock, Texas. He was born in Athens, Texas to Mangum and Attice Waller. Bud attended Lubbock High School. He went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma University after beginning his career with General Telephone and Electronics Corporation (GTE). His first job with GTE was digging telephone poles but soon graduated to climbing them. His career continued to progress into management positions from which he retired. Bud married the love of his life, Patsy Lou McPherson, in 1952. They were married for 55 years. Patsy proceeded him in death in 2007, but his love and adoration of her remained for 15 long years after her passing. Bud lived all of his adult life (62 years) in San Angelo. He and Patsy shared three sons, Rusty, Terry, and Scott. Both were active members of Southland Baptist Church and were deeply impacted by the friendships, ministry opportunities and strong sense of community provided through their church family. Bud was committed to his Christian faith and was active in the “Through God Comes Justice” jail ministry for many years. He also volunteered several years with Habitat for Humanity. Bud was a good, good man. He modeled integrity and character. Bud came from very humble beginnings and readily acknowledged “there go I but for the grace of God”. His love and grace towards his family was a direct reflection of the kind of love and grace Christ has for us. It was the ultimate kind of love that impacted his family to their core being. His son’s will be eternally grateful for the example he provided them stating, “it was an example we needed to see and feel.” His family expresses such gratitude for the eternal hope we can experience here and now, as well as when we pass into God’s eternal love. We have great peace, hope, and comfort knowing our beloved dad is now home and is dwelling in Christ’s loving, healing presence. He will be so missed, but his legacy will live on for generations. He is in the presence of God with his forever love, Patsy Lou. He is whole now. Thanks be to God for a life well lived.
Bud loved Patsy, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, Boomer Sooners, and tabasco sauce!
