On June 12, 1928, Lorene began life’s journey. She was born to Henry & Alma (Hardin) Overman at Abernathy, TX. Lorene passed away on February 21, 2021. Viewing will be Thursday at 8:00 am to 8 pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Graveside service is at 11:00 am Friday in the Petersburg Cemetery.
At the early age of two Lorene contracted Polio. Her father took her to Lubbock for treatments. The polio affected her left leg, but certainly did not affect her mind and attitude toward life.
Lorene accepted Christ when she was 13 years at the Methodist Church at Whiteface, TX.
The Roller Rink in Levelland was where all the kids went on Saturday night. In her junior year of school, Lorene’s best friend introduced her to Wayne Davis. They were married in March 1943 at the Baptist Church in Lorenzo, TX. They were married 47 years when Wayne passed away.
Wayne and Lorene were proud parents of one child, Gloria Diane. They traveled and lived in various places in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona with Wayne’s jobs as an oil driller and with the water well business they had. Finally settling in Petersburg, TX where Lorene taught kindergarten for four years. After Diane graduated from high school and college, they headed to Colorado with their water well business. They built a log cabin in the mountains. Lorene rode snowmobiles up and down the mountain when weather was not suitable for regular travel. Friends and family were always welcome at her home where ever that was.
After Wayne passed away in 1990, Lorene moved back to Petersburg, TX. On March 30, 1992, she married Leonard Armentrout, and they moved to Hilltop, TX. Diane, her daughter, had lost her husband, and she had begun to have a home built there at Hilltop. Sadly, Diane passed away before it was completely finished and Lorene and Leonard finished having it built. In 2000 Lorene and Leonard decided to move to San Angelo, TX to be close to Leonard’s sons who lived in Odessa, TX.
Leonard passed away in 2007, and Lorene moved to the Baptist Memorial High Rise. She loved living there and made many friends. She was always dressed in nice pant suits which she was complimented on a great deal. People thought she had paid a lot of money for her clothes, but, actually, she did not. She had her hair fixed every week and had a manicure and pedicure regularly. She always had a smile on her face even when she did not feel good. Family and friends were a special part of Lorene’s life, and she kept up with everyone by telephone. She was a wise lady and had a zest for life.
Lorene always said she was Blessed to have had two wonderful husbands, Wayne Davis and Leonard Armentrout who have passed on. Diane, her daughter and husband, Kelly Peugh, who have also passed away.
