Lanette grew up in Ira, Texas, and attended Ira High School where she played baseball and basketball excelling to make the all-district teams. Lanette wore many hats throughout her professional careers. Her first responsibility after high school, was a Nurse’s Aid in Snyder during WWII where she met her husband of some 55 years, J.D. Patterson of Fluvanna TX. In the early 1950’s Lanette changed roles to be a bank clerk, then helped J.D. manage their farms raising cattle, sheep, and growing cotton in Borden and Scurry counties. While operating their farm, Lanette also co-owned and managed the Patterson General Store in Fluvanna TX. After becoming a cosmotology instructor for a few years, she then opened her own beauty salon in Fluvanna and even became a Justice of The Peace for Scurry County during those years.
Lanette was involved in everything in Fluvanna and attended Fluvanna Church of Christ, and later, after her and J.D. retired and moved to San Angelo, attended Southgate Church of Christ in San Angelo. She loved being with her friends; an avid bridge player and a member in clubs in each town she lived in. She wouldn’t admit it, but she was a social butterfly.
Lanette was widowed by J.D in 2001 and later, at age 80, remarried to Ike Iverson. Ike was a widower himself. He is a WWII Marine Veteran. Lanette and Ike were together for 15 years taking care of each other every day and thriving, in their home, in San Angelo Tx. Ike, thank you for everything you have done for our “Nana”.
Lanette’s many life experiences gave her immense wisdom of people and family. She would share her wisdom with you whether you wanted to hear it or not, but in the end, it was always sound advice. She guided each member of her family with her loving encouragement, direction, and stern talking-too’s. One of Lanette’s latest quotes is used by her grandchildren (now parents themselves) to guide their own parenting principles and styles: “Love those babies, they are only little once then grown the rest of their lives”. She loved her one and only child Larry Patterson of San Angelo Tx in this way. She was the finest Mother and Grandmother, ever. We will miss her advice, stories, and conversations.
Lanette made life fun and eventful for her child, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Simple things like preparing cereal on the back porch in Fluvanna or making a pallet in the living room just made our day better, and she knew it. Nana always knows. Lanette/Mom/Nana, thank you for making all our days better. We love you.
Funeral services and visitation will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo TX , Sunday October 22nd at 6pm, and a prayer service at the grave site in Fluvanna TX cemetery, Monday October 23rd at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Meals for the Elderly in San Angelo.
