She was a hardworking mother who selflessly gave her all to her children and home, even helping raise a grandson whom she cared for dearly. If there was a reflection of a truly loving mother, she was that. We as her family were blessed to call her “Mother”. Even throughout her retirement, our mother gave her time volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club, where she spent over 20 years. She earned the loving nickname of “Grandma Bejil”. During mom’s time at Cedar Manor Nursing, when we or the staff asked, “how are you doing?” her reply was always “just holding on, just holding on” while smiling. We can say that she will always be loved and deeply missed by both the family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. We find comfort in knowing that Mom is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Esequiel and Raymunda Bejil; son, Alcario “Al” or “Bonie” Cardenas; grandson, Little Al Padilla Cardenas; and father of all her children, Alcario Cardenas, Sr.
Survivors include her brothers, Alfredo Bejil and Pablo Bejil, both of TX; children of Bonie (Bernice) Cardenas – Jackie and Abraham of TX, and Al III, of CA; children, Irma (Andy) Carrasco and her children Marcella, Jesse, Jimmy, and Jason, all of TX; Eddie (Marivel) Cardenas and his children Melissa, Yvette, Ricky, Eddie II, Elvis, and Amery, all of TX; Sylvia (Eduardo) Ramon and their children Eddie, Erica, and Kayla, all of CO; Mario Cardenas of TX; Rene Cardenas of NY; and Lisa Cardenas of TX and her son, Richard A. Chavez, Jr of Nashville, TN whom Isabel helped her raise. She is also survived by many loved ones, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins, among other relatives and family members whom she loved.
We the family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Wood, Dr. Hitchcock, Dr. Nissen, Dr. Punnoose, and all of the nursing team at Shannon Medical Center, as well as the staff of Cedar Manor Nursing Home, and a special thanks to Illianna and Mary Ellen at Johnson's Funeral Home for all their help.
No public services will be held at this time. A private burial ceremony will be held for immediate family at Knickerbocker Catholic Cemetery so that Isabel may be laid to rest alongside her parents.
